Hiring Information

The Basics:
The Greater University Tutoring Service (GUTS) is hiring for the 2012-13 academic year!  GUTS invites UW-Madison students to apply to become a member of our dynamic, diverse staff committed to helping students with their academic needs. 

GUTS has served students on the UW-Madison campus since 1974 by facilitating free, volunteer tutoring services in academic subjects, conversational English and foreign languages, and study skills.  GUTS offers a professional, fun environment in which to develop skills in organization, marketing and outreach, leadership, and student services.

General Responsibilities:
Responsibilities vary by position within GUTS, but generally include program and committee work to serve the GUTS mission of providing tutoring and tutoring services.  Staff members are expected to attend weekly meetings and keep regular office hours.

Qualifications and skills:
GUTS staff must be self-motivated and enthusiastic to work in a team of students to provide services to other students.  Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational abilities and attention to details, leadership experience, and effective interpersonal skills.  The ability to work in a diverse environment and with international students is essential.  In addition, good computer skills, including familiarity with database and spreadsheet management, experience in graphic, multimedia, and web design, and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Design software, is a plus.  Backgrounds in marketing and outreach, graphic and web design, education, and student services are highly desired.
